Hi Patty,
Most peaches are just beginning to ripen – they really peak in July, when it gets a bit warmer. Plus, we’ve had a very wet year. At Eckert’s in Belleville, they have a nice chart showing when specific varieties of peaches are ready: http://www.eckerts.com/peach.htm. You can find out more about what’s at the Springfield Farmers’ Market by calling (217) 544-1723. And here is a list of pick-your-own farms in Central Illinois: http://www.agfun.com/central_orchardsupicks.html
Hope this helps!
