Posters Show Where Thanksgiving Dinner Comes From
November 1, 2011By admin
In celebration of Geography Awareness Week, November 13-19, Linda Zellmer has created a way to connect consumers to where their Thanksgiving dinner originates.
Zellmer, government information and data services librarian at Western Illinois University Libraries, has used GIS – which stands for “geographic information systems” – technology to develop a website that links to maps showing where typical Thanksgiving food comes from, such as turkey, cranberries and squash. Viewed as PDFs, the maps are color-coded and include an easy-to-read key, making them ideal for educational use.
