Did you know the Chicago Botanic Garden offers urban farming workshops, certification courses and even some free community classes?
Windy City Harvest (the Chicago Botanic Garden’s urban agriculture program) hosts one-day workshops ideal for learning sustainable techniques catered to small, urban spaces like backyards, porches and rooftops. Classes are held at the Farm on Ogden, located at 3555 W. Ogden Ave. in Chicago, which is also home to a 73,000-square-foot greenhouse, a commercial and teaching kitchen, and an indoor market selling fresh, affordable food locally grown by participants and graduates of the Windy City Harvest program.

If you already have a solid grasp on growing and want to expand your knowledge and experience in specific areas, one of Windy City Harvest’s Certification Courses might be just the ticket. Held on evenings and weekends, these combine classroom learning with hands-on experience. And for the more ambitious, learn about aquaponics at the state-of-the-art, 50,000-gallon facility through one-day workshops or three-day intensive courses.
