Discover the Historic Marbold Farmstead in Greenview, a living history farm, museum and educational center that demonstrates what farm life was like in the 1900s. German immigrant John H. Marbold, on whose land it sits, arrived in America in 1847, settled in Petersburg and soon accumulated 200 acres. He and his son, H.H. Marbold, began a successful farm business and eventually amassed more than 4,000 acres by the late 1800s. The Marbolds even sponsored other immigrants who moved to the area, providing them with jobs and enabling them to eventually purchase their own farms.
Since 2012, the Historic Marbold Farmstead Association has worked to renovate and restore the property’s home and buildings to their original state. The organization regularly hosts events, where craftsmen, artisans and demonstrators put their skills on display, as well as a Farm Day for Greenview Elementary School students, where kids can learn about historical farming life.

I am so happy that the mansion is being restored. As a child we drove past the property on many occasions on our way to Springfield and our dad would tell us some of the stories circulating about the house at the time, so whenever we went to Springfield we insisted that our dad take rt 29 so we could see the house one more time. I am 64 years old now, and still find the house very intriguing. The house retained its beauty even in its poor condition.it bothers me that people broke in and took some of the original items from the property, but the restoration of the house is definitely a worthy project. As children we always wondered if the house would be restored and we are happy to see that it is.when the season rolls around I will be there to tour the house and finally see the inside
