Morrow Plots at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is country's oldest experimental crop field.

The crops of yesterday and today owe a lot to Morrow.

As the first soil experimental plots used by an American college, Morrow Plots is the country’s oldest experimental crop field and the world’s second oldest.

The field, located at the core of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was first laid out in 1876 and is still in use today. Though only three of the original 10 plots remain, Morrow Plots continues to yield important research information about the effects of fertilizer use, the depletion of natural soil nutrients and more.

Visitors are welcome to view the plots, located at the intersection of Gregory Drive at Matthews Avenue in Urbana.
