The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of U.S. sites, generally more than 50 years old, that deserve special attention and preservation. Each county in Illinois is home to at least one historic district or special site listed. On Feb. 7, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced 30 Illinois properties that were added to the National Register of Historic Places throughout 2018. The properties range from community art centers and high schools to firehouses and churches.

Hotel Belleville, St. Clair County

This art deco building was designed by the St. Louis architectural firm Manske and Bartling and constructed in Belleville between 1930 and 1931. The hotel went on to play an important part in the commercial history of the city throughout the 20th century. In addition to its role as a hotel, dining and entertainment space, the building also became a permanent office for the Chamber of Commerce, as well as a meeting space for a variety of local and national organizations. The building remained operational until 1961.
