Popcorn is another type of corn that we eat. Illinois ranks 3rd in the nation for popcorn production. Popcorn is the official Illinois snack food. Every kernel of popcorn has a little bit of water inside. When the kernel is heated, the water heats and builds up pressure. When enough pressure is built up, the kernel pops and turns inside out. Popcorn is a whole grain and is not available in a GMO version.
