Driving along interstates and through rural Illinois, you may often see signs in fields with names like Pioneer, DEKALB, Syngenta and more. But do you know what those signs mean?
Some people mistake them as proof these companies or corporations have taken over the land. Not so. Most likely, it represents a proud farmer who either owns or rents the property and wants to show off a particular brand of seed he or she uses.
Seed dealers typically put up the signs in the field. In fact, many farmers often also work as seed dealers as a way to supplement their income. Dealers take pride in their products and want potential customers to know their seeds produced the impressive field you might be driving by.
So, next time you’re traveling alongside a beautiful field of corn or other crops, rest assured those signs reflect the brand of seeds grown – and that local family farmers are still going strong.
