Artist Emily Lowis grew up on a sixth-generation Illinois farm that has been in her family for more than 150 years. Inspired by her upbringing and connection to the land, she creates impressionist-style paintings that celebrate agricultural labor, generational farming, and the bonds between people and the land they steward. Her most recent work explores themes of family and faith, honoring the labor, landscapes and traditions that shape rural living. Many of her paintings depict everyday moments such as cleaning grain bins, stacking straw, moving augers and changing tires, using rich texture and shifting light to create a sense of movement that captures the fleeting beauty of farm life.
In 2025, Lowis completed a major exhibition through Southern Illinois University Edwardsville that resonated with local farmers, educators and families who saw their own stories reflected in her work. She is currently pursuing dual degrees in art education and studio art.
