Douglas Hart Nature Center in Mattoon, Illinois

Spring is a wonderful time to visit, according to the center’s staff, although educational programs and special events run year-round.

The center, funded through grants and private support, was established in the late 1960s. Over the years, more than 65 acres of land have been transformed into prairie, forest and wetlands habitats.
