Prairie Fire Glass serves as a paradise for artist Jim Downey, who spends his days in the shop creating beautiful blown and fused glass pieces. With more than 30 years of experience working with glass, Downey has found many creative elements to incorporate within his art. Every piece is handmade on-site.
“Glass is a unique material,” Downey says. “In all different forms, it has a distinct character, temperament and personality that requires technical discipline and process orientation, but still allows for endless spontaneity.”
This unique Monticello retail shop has a gallery in the front and a working studio in the back. When it’s cooler, visitors can watch live glassblowing while browsing all the finished pieces.
